These are just a few of North Lake Tahoe Special Events – some old standing traditions and some new – all outdoor events that capture the fun and adventure that Tahoe has to offer. Check individual websites for specific dates.
The Great Ski Race
30k from Tahoe City to Truckee, a cross country and snowshoe race. A community event that is a long time tradition held on the first Sunday in March. Past races have had up to 1000 plus skiers of all abilities and ages.
Snow Fest Week
Always during the first week of March. The event consists of up to 100 events throughout the North Lake Tahoe area including a torchlight parade, laser show and fireworks, parades, pancake breakfasts, concerts, bar parties, ski races, dog and pet events, an ice-cream eating contest, a luau, Mardi Gras party, ice carving, a polar bear swim and much more.
The Lake Tahoe Nordic Festival
An event that hopes to bring awareness that the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee area have some of the finest Nordic skiing in the United States. All events are FREE and open to the public. Most events are held at Tahoe Cross Country.
Adventure Sports Week
A week full of running, biking, swimming and SUP races including the Xterra Triathlon. Clinics and demo are also offered for those of you want to improve your athletic skills and knowledge.
Big Blue Adventure
A multitude of athletic events from June to October. Take your pick – running, mountain biking, SUP and triathlon races.
The Olympic Club Trans Tahoe Relay
An open water swimming event that spans Lake Tahoe. The Trans Tahoe Relay has become one of the largest open water swims in the world and it is seen as a landmark of open water events.
Paddle Board Race Ta-Hoe Nalu
A two day festive event in Kings Beach centered around stand up paddle boarding with lots of races, events, clinics and awards for all ages and abilities.
An Autumn tradition here at Lake Tahoe. Includes a running marathon, running relay around Lake Tahoe and the 72 Bike Race around the Lake.
Sierra Tahoe Century
Held in mid-September and is a fund raiser for the North Tahoe High Jazz Band – a wonderful local tradition
Tahoe Peak Endurance
If you are up to the challenge of one of these events and need a bit of coaching for support – give Tahoe Peak Endurance a call – Colleen is an exceptional local athlete that can give you guidance and help in high altitude training. Tahoe Peak Endurance also runs the Tahoe Altitude Triathlon Camps sanctioned by USAT. These camps are geared to those competing in the Ironman at Lake Tahoe or other high altitude triathlons.
