Exploring Tahoe in the off season is a treat from the busier seasons of Summer and Winter. Hiking and mountain biking are extra nice in the cooler quieter Fall season. Stand up paddle boarding and kayaking on Tahoe without the waves and noise of motorboat traffic is a guaranteed way to de-stress and enjoy the peaceful beauty. Our Fall colors are vibrant and abundant and the best on the West Coast. The local Tahoe City restaurants regularly offer a local discount in the quieter months – a good excuse to have a lovely night out. These are just a few reasons why to venture up to North Lake Tahoe any time of year.

There’s plenty to do in the Summer also. Whether you are a beach goer, stand up paddle boarder, kayaker or boater you will delight in the refreshing clarity and beauty of the waters of Lake Tahoe. Fishermen will enjoy the many lakes and streams offering world class fishing in close proximity of Tahoe’s North Shore. Hikers and mountain bikers have endless trails and dirt roads to explore on National Forest Service Lands without the worries of private property to confine them. There is the 150 mile Tahoe Rim Trail with stunning scenic views that can be accessed from numerous trails heads. Cyclists will relish the hilly challenges and weekly road and mountain bike races. For the shoppers in the group Tahoe City offers a variety of small and interesting stores to explore.

For those snow bum types that don’t mind a little cold. With one of the highest concentration of Alpine Ski and Snowboard Resorts in such close proximity, North Lake Tahoe can provide easy access to fill your needs. Everything from the world class resorts of Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Northstar to the inexpensive Mom and Pop ski hills, the variety doesn’t get any better. The Alpine Resorts are only a small part of the winter experience. Escape and try snowshoeing, a peaceful and relaxing change from the hustle and bustle found at the ski hills. With 6 Cross Country Ski Areas close by North Lake Tahoe has the most concentrated variety of Cross Country Skiing in North America. Nordic areas such as Tahoe XC have dog friendly trails so you can take your best friend along on your wintery adventures.

Tahoe Winter Activities

North Lake Tahoe is host to a multitude of athletic sporting events almost every weekend  throughout the year. You can participate or cheer on the wide variety of individuals out challenging themselves and each other. You may bump into an ex or current Olympian along the way. During the 2014 Olympics the Lake Tahoe area medal count rivaled that of many major countries. Either way these are exciting events to be able to participate or spectate! The Great Ski Race a long time tradition, almost 40 years, starting in Tahoe City and ending in Truckee. The Trans Tahoe Relay, also approaching a 40 year tradition, starting on the East Shore and finishing on the West Shore of Tahoe. Lake Tahoe Marathon Week with running and cycling races, has been around for almost 20 years.
